FRRR and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF) have partnered to deliver Backing the Future. It’s an exciting program that supports innovative ideas benefitting young people in Queensland and New South Wales.
Backing the Future recognises that remote, rural and regional communities possess the knowledge and drive to create a better future for young people. However, securing funding for early-stage projects can be challenging.
Backing the Future provides one-off, $50,000 grants to support individuals in developing, testing and accelerating projects that benefit young people aged 12-30 in QLD and NSW. Projects should align with one of the four key program areas of helping young people to:
This program allows VFFF and FRRR to leverage our collective strengths, ensuring that the investment creates the greatest impact for the future of remote, rural and regional communities in NSW and QLD.
Both our organisations recognise the need to invest in the next generation of changemakers and volunteers to ensure a vibrant and sustainable remote, rural and regional Australia.
This collaboration enables us to discover and nurture promising ideas, and explore the potential for significant impact that results when a great idea meets the passion and enthusiasm of changemakers.

Applications to the 2025 QLD round are currently being assessed, with funding awarded in late June.
