Grant gives impetus to get the kitchen sink

Adventure Bay is a tiny township on the eastern side of Bruny Island, Tasmania. It is one of the more sheltered beaches on the island and so is a popular swimming spot and community centre.

The Adventure Bay Community Hall Committee received an FRRR grant of $4,500 to upgrade their kitchen facilities.

Committee member Margaret Graham says the grant enabled them to do more than they initially planned.

“The kitchen upgrade surpassed all expectations; the impetus that the grant gave to the project saw an impressive fund raising activity and donations from other groups that use the hall," said Ms Graham.

The FRRR grant allowed for stainless steel benches, sinks and taps, and refurbishment of the original timber floors.

Additional funds raised funded a dishwasher, two commercial grade range hoods and a new fridge. A more attractive, functional and easy to maintain space has resulted in an increase in hire of the hall for private functions and parties, which in turn has increased the committee’s ability to continue improvement projects for the hall.

The Bruny Island community was proud to host a visit from the Tasmanian Premier, Lara Giddings in this year to show off the improvements, which certainly are spic’n’span!
