Playground colocates with local school
Amidst the organised mayhem of children playing, a small crowd of Mums, Dad’s, community representatives and funding partners gathered in the northern Victorian town of Barnawartha to celebrate the relocation of the Barnawartha Play Group to the old school in the local Primary School grounds.
Speakers acknowledged the hard work of the committee and Maternal Child Health staff in bringing the relocation to fruition. Those involved were presented with certificates to mark the occasion.
FRRR was one of 11 organisations that contributed to funding the project. Our funding was used to install fencing around the back of the building to create a safe outdoor play area for the children.
It has been a real community effort to relocate the playgroup and it has clearly brought the community closer together. The playgroup has forged an excellent partnership with the local men's shed who will be building a shade canopy over the sand pit. The relocation has also strengthened the relationship with the Maternal Child Health Nurse who is now co-located with the playgroup. Play dates conicide with monthly mobile library days at the school, and the playgroup has linked with the Prep class. They visit each other’s spaces and recently shared a visit from the local CFA.
The next phase for the group is a staged development of the outdoor area and purchase of new indoor/outdoor equipment.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved in this exciting project.
