Fowler Bay, located some 900kms west of Adelaide, is in Far Western Coastal Region of South Australia. With a very small community of around 100 at peak times, the residents are very proud of their peaceful tranquil town. The Progress Association plays a pivotal role as one of the remaining “out of council” areas in South Australia, with ten elected volunteer members managing the town services. The main source of funding comes from grants, voluntary contributions and fundraising events.
Until recently, the town hall had not been used to its capacity. After intensive renovations to the kitchen over the past few years things had improved, however there was still much to be done.
With the generosity of the Becher Foundation and through the Small Grants for Small Rural Communities Program, the Fowlers Bay Progress Association has now been able to repair the salt damp on the internal walls, saving the hall from further deterioration.
The hall provides a much-needed meeting point for the Fowlers Bay Community and the surrounding communities. With the new kitchen and the removal of salt damp, the hall now has a positive future.
The Progress Association believes that it will be used for many years to come.
