Kick-starting the new year with help of small grants

99 rural, regional and remote community projects nation-wide receive funding from FRRR’s longest running grant program.

Bendigo, 19 January, 2016:  The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) has announced the recipients of Round 28 of their flagship grants program - Small Grants for Rural Communities (SGRC)

Out of the 326 groups that applied to this round, 99 projects will receive a grant. Communities as widespread as Corinella, NSW, Mataranka, NT, Oatlands, Tas, and Many Peaks, WA received grants to develop their projects.

An ever-present theme for funding requests is the maintenance of community-use buildings such as halls. A number of requests were also made for funding to improve disabled access, install air conditioners, and purchase tables, chairs and kitchen equipment.

Other notable themes of grants awarded in this round include: performing arts and theatre related projects for all ages; first aid and fire-fighting equipment; school/community gardening projects; special needs resources; mental health education; projects to boost local tourism; and the purchase and upgrade of IT equipment for community use/publications.

These grants are available thanks to numerous generous donors who collaborate under the Small Grants banner to offer a simple, broad grant program to regional, rural and remote communities.

Small Grants for Rural Communities is a collaborative program, administered by FRRR and funded in this round by:

  • The Bertalli Family Foundation
  • Berrembed Trust
