NSW country kids top the class with education grants

Six recipients in country NSW will receive education grants of up to $12,500, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and Royal Agricultural Society Foundation (RASF) announced today.
They are:
· Burren Junction Preschool Association Inc – Burren Junction $2,840
· Cumnock Village Preschool – Cumnock $1,104
· Drake Public School – Drake $2,265
· Lockhart Central School P&C Association – Lockhart $12,500
· Jerilderie Public School P&C Association – Jerilderie $5,000
· Rowena Progress Association – Rowena $1,500
The grants, funded by the RASF to encourage educational excellence, will be distributed through FRRR.
Projects funded include large toys and equipment, outdoor equipment, literacy help, updating reading sources and sports equipment and readers.
Collectively the grants total $25,209 for the quarter.
Colleen Healy of the Lockhart Central School Parents & Citizens Association said she was delighted with the grant which will help the P&C to purchase new communication technology to increase student literacy.
”Without this grant the students would be unable to accelerate their learning through this vital technology”.
The Lockhart Central School P&Cwas one of13to apply for the RASF grants, through the FRRR, which are exclusively for improving NSW country students’ access to quality education.
The RASF, formed by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW in September 2007, said it wanted to ensure country kids had a good education regardless of climatic and economic conditions.
RASF president, Mr Rob Vickery said he was delighted with the interest in the grants
“From tuition fees to library books, to skills development and extracurricular activities, we want to ensure NSW country children are not missing out when it comes to education,” Rob Vickery said.
