$300,000 for Community Grants in Flood Affected Central Queensland

19 August 2008

Repair - Restore - Renew - RRR

Rural communities in the Emerald and Mackay regions devastated by this year’s flooding will start to re-build halls, nursing homes, playgrounds, schools and recreation areas thanks to a partnership between the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) and The Viertel Charitable Foundation with the assistance of the Central Queensland and Mackay Region Area Consultative Committees

The Repair, Restore, Renew Program will offer grants of up to $30,000 to not for profit organisations for projects and activities that offer clear public benefit for communities living in areas severely affected by the floods in early 2008 contributing to their development in social and community welfare, economic, environmental, health, education or cultural areas.

FRRR Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Admans said “This was an excellent opportunity for two philanthropic organisations to get together to assist a devastated part of Australia.”

A series of public forums will be held in local communities to enable organisations to learn about how the program will operate.
