From the Ashes to the Airwaves - Kinglake Ranges Community Radio
27 January 2010
The community of the Kinglake Ranges will celebrate the launch of its own Community Radio Station on the 29thJanuary 2010 between 4pm and 6pm. Invited guests include local politicians, ABC personnel and the local community.
Initially established with the assistance of ABC Radio in response to the devastating impact of the fires across the ranges, the community has worked hard to secure funding from a range of sources to create a permanent location for the station.
“This station is the product of a lot of hard work and dedication of many people who have worked together to achieve a common goal. It is community in the true sense of the word.” – Kathy Stewart (Vice President)
“We are now able to present music, news and information with a true local flavour that is relevant to our own community.” – Mark Beacham (President)
FRRR provided funding through The Collie Foundation (managed by ANZ Trustees) to support the purchase and installation of broadcast equipment.
"The Collie Foundation's grant helping establish Kinglake Ranges Radio station is an exciting example of how philanthropy can work creatively with government and other partners to strengthen communities now, and into the future," said Ms Teresa Zolnierkiewicz, Head of Philanthropy, ANZ Trustees.
The radio station is the voice for the entire community and has a role both as an emergency broadcaster, as well as an avenue for all community groups to share their news, information and activities.
FRRR administers the RRR – Repair, Restore, Renew an independent collaborative philanthropic grants program in response to the Victorian 2009 Bushfires. Application forms and guidelines are available from their website www.frrr.org.au Grants of up to $30,000 are available to not for profit community groups in communities affected by or impacted by the bushfires. No specific tax status is required.
