Victorian Bushfire Recovery Grants Announced

Bendigo, 8 August 2017: Today 16 community groups received funding to support the long-term recovery and resilience of communities affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

Supported by the Victorian Bushfire Appeal fund, the 16 community groups will share in $152,046 across two grant programs to implement locally led projects.

Bushfire Recovery Grant

The Grants for Resilience & Wellness (GR&W) program recognises that an important part of community recovery is having opportunities to connect, share experiences, enhance individual and community wellbeing and resilience.

The Community Group Futures (CGF) program is designed to help community groups  look forward and build their organisational sustainability, viability, capability and capacity.

Provide positive opportunities for self-expression, skill development and increased community connectedness through engagement of young local people in song-writing workshops and performance, and documentation of activities.

Increase community capacity and preparedness for supporting people at risk through provision of suicide prevention workshops for individuals and relevant not for profit organisations.

Increase actual and perceived safety of the Strathewen community in the event of bushfire through relocation of an existing water tank and to purchase and install new water tanks for a community recreation reserve.

Increase safety and capacity for engagement for students and preschool children and their families and local young people, through landscaping, earthworks and signage to improve a community play space.
