Thirty-three projects receive culture, arts, tourism and cultural heritage grants
Bendigo 11 August, 2014: Communities across rural, regional and remote Australia will be culturally richer after sharing nearly $300,000 in grants from FRRR.
Thirty-three projects from QLD, NSW, NT and WA have received funding, thanks to generous donations from The McCusker Foundation, The Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, The Julian Flett Endowment, managed by Perpetual Trustees, and a private donor, all of whom support FRRR’s Culture, Arts, Tourism and Community Heritage (CATCH) grants program.
The not-for-profit community groups receiving the grants are investing in a wide range of initiatives, from upgrading community facilities and creating signage for heritage sites, to hosting diverse community events, accessing conservation expertise, publishing stories from the past and running workshops (from leadership skills to creative arts).
The program offers grants of up to $20,000, providing the funding that many communities struggle to raise locally.
FRRR’s CEO, Alexandra Gartmann, says that this program continues to experience high demand with more than 180 applications received for a broad range of projects, requesting over $2.6 million in funds.
“A very diverse range of community groups applied for funding under this program but we can only fund 33 out of the 188 requests,” she explained. “We continue to seek new donors for this program to help us meet this unmet demand for funding,” Ms Gartmann said.
"Philanthropy plays an important role by funding these kinds of programs, especially in the face of declining funding from alternative sources. In our experience, opportunities for artistic expression and experiences in rural and remote Australia are critical for diverse and vibrant communities," Ms Gartmann said.
“We are delighted to be able to help these 33 community groups bring their visions to fruition and look forward to hearing about the impact of these grants.”
