Collaboration continues with Lachlan Region Community Grants

FRRR is pleased to announce the latest projects and community organisations to benefit from the Lachlan Region Community Grants Program, an innovative and collaborative place-based community development program in central west New South Wales.

Seventeen community organisations in the Lachlan Shire will share $87,200 in funding in round two of the program.

The program was founded by the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF) in 2012 and operates via a Small Grant Program Donation Account. The Lachlan Region Community Grants Program is hosted by FRRR in collaboration with Western Plains Regional Development (WPRD) Inc. and VFFF. A local committee, coordinated by WPRD, undertook their second year of assessing grant applications in early November 2013.

CEOs from VFFF and FRRR sit on the assessment committee with local community members, and FRRR staff advise the local organisation on guidelines, grant agreements and key issues.

Place-based programs allow philanthropy to invest in local communities and their capacity, to bring about sustained social outcomes. This program is structured as a challenge grant – encouraging the local community to fundraise and contribute themselves, which builds ownership of the projects. Local fundraising in the second year has ensured the program has been able to support a wide range of projects, ranging in size and type.

The committee is presenting cheques at local events during December and January. See below for the full list of projects awarded funding in round two.
